How To Manually Download And Install Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread On Motorola Droid X

Earlier today I announced you that p3droid, a MyDroidWorld forum user, has posted download and install instructions for the unofficial Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread build for the Motorola Droid X and Droid 2. This article will only concentrate on the Motorola Droid X, while a link for the Droid 2 is coming soon. Update: Motorola Droid 2 link is here!

Please note that this only works for rooted Motorola Droid X devices so root your phone before starting!

How to manually download and install Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread on Motorola Droid  X ( Step-by-step Guide ):

  1. Download Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread build here, here, or here (multiple mirrors in case one doesn’t work);

  2. Copy it on your microSD card;

  3. Take your Droid X into recovery mode using Bootstrap;

  4. Backup your Motorola Droid X;

  5. Install the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread firmware update via recovery mode;

  6. Click “Install .ZIP” from your microSD card;

  7. Choose the correct .ZIP file;

  8. Go to the “TeamBlackHat” folder;

  9. Choose the file that you’ve downloaded;

  10. Restart your Motorola Droid X;

  11. Enjoy!

If for some reason your Droid X will enter in a bootloop, take it into Recovery Mode and wipe your data. How to do it:

  1. Press both Home and Power buttons at the same time;

  2. When the triangle appears, press and hold both volume buttons;

  3. Choose Wipe Date and Factory Reset using the power buttons;

  4. Reboot your Motorola Droid X;

  5. Enjoy!
