How To Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 Using Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 On Windows PC

iOS 4.3.1 has been officially released and since it only took a couple of days for all jailbreakers to start developing the required tool for helping jailbreak your own iOS device. This post features the instructions that you will have to follow in order to jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS with both, old and new, Bootroms being supported, also it will work on iPod Touch 3G / 4G and for the iPad 1st Gen. As you can see, the iPad 2 isn’t listed, which means that for the moment the Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 jailbreak won’t work on iPad 2.

Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 won’t update the baseband version and the carrier unlock will remain in the same state as before, bu only for the iOS device that are using the following baseband versions: 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 or 06.15.00. Because Sho0wbreeze is a tethered jailbreak and you will have to boot your iOS device with the iBooty app. Below you can find all the instructions that will help you to boot your iOS into tethered mode and jailbreak it with the Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 software.

The instructions in this post will work on Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers. Also, before you get to the first step, please make sure that Windows is running with Administrator rights and after that download the utilities below, by clicking the ‘here’ links.

  • Download Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 from here.

  • Download and install the iTunes 10.2.1 for Windows  from here.

  • Download iOS 4.3 iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch from here.

Place the Sn0wbreeze and iOS firmware files onto your computer’s desktop and after that get to the first step of the iOS 4.3.1 Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 Jailbreak How To Guide.

How To Build The Custom Firmware For Your iOS 4.3.1 Device
  1. First thing that you need to do is to extract all contents from the ‘Sn0wbreeze-v2.4b1.zip’ archive on your desktop.

  2. Connect your iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPod Touch 4G / 3G  or iPad 1st Gen via USB port.

  3. Now Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 software pops up and you should  click Next and after that click on the ‘browse’ button and now select the iOS firmware files for your iOS device. I have selected the iPhone 4 IPSW. Sn0wbreeze software is verifying if you selected the correct IPSW. Click the blue arrow to get to the next step.

  4. Now you will be asked to choose between Simple, Expert or Baseband Preservation modes. I have selected the Expert Mode, because this will add support for multi-touch gestures for your iPhone 4 and other new customizable features. In case you don’t need to use such features, then you can get straight to step 6.

  5. Now you will be shown an options screen and you will have to select ‘General’ and if your iPhone 4 is factory unlocked or if the iPhone 4 is from a carrier that is officially supported such as AT&T, then you shouldn’t select ‘Activate the iPhone’.

    • If the iOS device you’re using is an iPhone 3GS, then you should click ‘Unlocks’. This is a required step that you need to take in order to successfully unlock the iPhone 3GS that is running on baseband 05.14.02 or 05.15.04. In order for this to work you will have to update the baseband version to 06.15.00 and after that you need to unlock it.

    • Choose the ‘Install 06.15.00 iPad baseband’ option and then hit the OK button and after that click on the blue arrow in order to continue. Please note that by upgrading to baseband 06.15.00 iPad baseband, your iPhone 3GS will lose the GPS.

  6. Now click on ‘Build IPSW’ and this will trigger the build the custom firmware for iOS 4.3 and, you will notice the Patch iBSS, ramdisk. Until the process is complete, you are being offered the possibility to play PacMan or you can simply choose to wait.

  7. When the operation has been complete, you can press the OK button and after that simply follow the instructions displayed by the Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 jailbreaking tool.

  8. Connect your device, and hit the start button when everything is set and you’re ready to start launching the device into DFU mode. Turn off the iPhone 4 or whatever iOS device you’re using. To put the iOS device into DFU mode you will have to turn off the device, then press and hold the HOME and POWER buttons pressed for 10 seconds and after that let loose only the POWER button, while the HOME button remains pressed.

  9. Launch iTunes and you will be shown an alert that tells you that the iPhone has been botted into DFU mode. Click Ok.

  10. Press and hold the SHIFT key on your PC keyboard and hit the Restore button in iTunes.

  11. Select the custom built IPSW files and click ‘Choose’. Now you need to wait until iTunes manages to install the new IPSW 4.3 firmware on your iOS Apple device.

  12. When the installation has been completed, your iOS device will be automatically restarted. The jailbreaking operation of your iOS 4.3.1 device has been successful.

How To Boot iPhone 4 / 3GS or iPod Touch or iPad Into Tethered Mode

As i’ve told before, the Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 is a tethered jailbreak and you will have to boot your jailbroken iOS 4.3.1 device into Tethered Mode. In order to correctly perform such actions, you will be needing a small app, called iBooty. This app can be found on your computer’s desktop, because it was previously downloaded when the building of the IPSW files was in progress. Follow the steps listed below and you will manage to easily boot your iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPad or iPod Touch into tethered mode;

  1. Launch iBooty.

  2. Select the current iOS device you use.

  3. Now click ‘Start’ and then follow the on-screen instructions in order to boot your device into DFU mode.

  4. After DFU mode has been established, the iBooty app will take care of the rest, which means that at the end of the process your iPhone 4 / 3GS will be booted into tethered jailbreak mode.

I hope that you’ve managed to easily understand and that the Sn0wbreeze jailbreak utility for iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPad and iPod Toucg 4G / 3G, running on iOS 4.3.1, has been successfully installed.
