How To Fix / Repair Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update Error After Updating To Windows 7 SP1

As I’m sure that you know, Windows 7 SP1 has been released as a beta version, but it seems that the Lenovo ThinkPad users noticed some errors after updating to Service Pack 1.

All Lenovo ThinkPad computers are using the ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU) for keeping the computer updated at all times. But, since Microsoft released the SP1 for Windows 7, numerous users reported that their ThinkPad systems displayed errors after updating to Windows 7 SP1 from the default Windows 7 OS. The errors displayed are stating that the System Update is no longer working, because of an error stating that the system is unable to search for new updates for their Lenovo ThinkPad computers. If your computer doesn’t feature such errors, then it means that you’re lucky, but if otherwise, you really need a guide that can help you solve such problems and errors developed by your Windows 7 SP1 OS.

The ThinkVantage System Update error usually occurs because of the fact that the release of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 isn’t official and, Lenovo likes to wait for the official release of the Win7 SP1, before updating their own ThinkVantage System Update service to fully support changes and other components of the SP1. The Windows 7 Service Pack 1 should hit the daylight sometime at the end of February, 2011 and then Lenovo should upgrade their TVSU service to support the new Service Pack 1 for Windows7. But, until we reach that date, let me tell that you can fix the ThinkVantage System Update error easily, by following the steps listed below:

STEP1: Launch Windows Explorer. STEP2: Now go this folder:
  • Program FilesLenovoSystem UpdatesessionsystemSSClientCommon – for x86 (32-bit) OS

  • Program Files (x86)LenovoSystem UpdatesessionsystemSSClientCommon – for x64 (64-bit) OS

STEP3: Now you have to edit the ‘MappingInterface.xml’ file.

To do this you need to right click the file and from the context menu select Edit. The file should open in Notepad.

STEP4: You need to paste the following code lines at the end of the MappingInterface.xml file.

Basically, these lines will offer support for Windows 7 SP1 System Update

.

STEP5: Now you have to save the MappingInterface.xml file and after that you can launch the System Update once again. Now it should work.

These were all the steps that you had to take in order to add support for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for the Lenovo ThinkPad using ThinkVantage System Update. I hope that you found this guide helpful and that your system is correctly updating itself.
