How to Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.2.1 (Untethered Beta)

In the following guide you will learn how to permanently ( Untethered ) jailbreak the iPhone 4, iPad or the iPod Touch 4G, running on iOS 4.2.1. This will be done using the latest version of Redsn0w: 0.9.7b3. With this tool you will be able to keep the jailbreaking ability forever, without having to do this guide again and again, whenever you are rebooting the device. Unlocking is possible, but at this stage is not recommended.

Until now, jailbreaking on the iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 3GS ( new bootroom ) with iOS 4.2.1 was only temporary ( tethered ). With the new Dev-Team project, called Redsn0w 0.9.7b3, temporarily has evolved into permanently, but all with a cost. The tool is at the Beta 3 stage and it is not recommended for a general use. In a few weeks the final version will be released and hopefully it will be a stable build. If you want to take the chances, here is what you are facing with the Beta:

  • It only works on a MAC.

  • Cydia must have the iOS 4.2b3 SHSH hashes. To check this simply open Cydia and see if you have 4.2b3 shown, like bellow:

SHSH blobs on Cydia

  • Bluetooth is not working.

  • iPhone 3GS ( new bootroom ) not supported.

  • Access to the iOS 4.2b3 firmware – you need to be an Apple Partner/developer.

If you encounter any unusual bugs or errors, please report them to the official Dev-Team website. The information will be used to patch any holes in the software and release the final version sooner. I strongly advise you to wait for the official version and not to follow the guide bellow. If you read all my words above and still want to try this, let’s go. Don’t forget to back up all of your data: pictures, files, contacts etc.
