How to install Android 2.2.1 update on Droid X, by Motorola and Verizon

Don’t know about you guys, but I sure enjoy these limited circle updates. Just yesterday, Motorola moved the Droid X to a new Android version, 2.2.1 ( still Froyo ), but just to a limited group of testers. The update has been a successful build so, the guys from XDA did their magic and now we have a subject to write about. In the following lines you will learn how to install the Android 2.2.1 update on the Motorola Droid X. This update is not limited to Verizon users so, feel free to follow our guide.

Some words before heading to install Android 2.2.1 on the Droid X. This update was designed as a maintenance update by Verizon so, not a lot of new features are available. Still, you will find a Preloaded Madden NFL football game, Flash 10.1, Verizon Apps, a Data Widget within the home panel, a more stable Froyo build and fixes to Exchange Activesync and Visual Voicemail, along with other minor improvements. We have to remind you that this build is actually the same thing with the OTA one, so don’t lose faith.

Note: We will find bellow two versions of this update. One requires a stock Motorola Droid X, bears the name of 2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.USIBP_C_01.09.07P and doesn’t have any compatibility issues. You may call it the safest one out there. The second build works for rooted users, but just for those that come from a system build 2.3.15. XDA strongly advises you not to install it, because it is not compatible. As for the rooting capabilities, they will vanish after the update. To recover them, just root again.
