Windows 7: How to check if your computer is Windows 7 compatible


If you want to install Windows 7 on your computer then you must first find out if your computer is Windows 7 compatible. To do this, you have to download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and use it. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is an utility that analyzes your computer and checks if it’s ready to run the new Windows 7.

You can only use the software if you’re using Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta and RC.

So follow the steps below to find out if your computer is Windows 7 compatible:

  1. Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor tool.

  2. Run the software.

  3. Click Start check.

  4. Check the report generated by the software.

  5. If you want to save the report, then use the Save Report button and you can see it full and detailed as HTML.

After your report is generated, you should know that:

  • System Requirements checks if the Windows 7 minimum requirements are fulfilled.

  • Devices check that Windows 7 has drivers for your internal and external devices.

  • Programs checks if your software is Windows 7 compatible.

To find out if your computer is ready to run Windows 7:

  • Green means No issues, so your computer is 100% Windows 7 compatible.

  • Yellow means Minor Issues, so Windows Update should fix them.

  • Red means Major Issues so you are not ready to upgrade to Windows 7.
