How to jailbreak iPhone 3G / 3GS on iOS 4.1 ( PC guide )

I know you guys waited a bit, but it was necessary for a new tool version to be released: sn0wbreeze. The following guide addresses PC users, and teaches you how to jailbreak an iPhone 3G and 3GS, on iOS 4.1. If you are running on a MAC, use this instead. Also, please read the following lines carefully, as there is much to be known.

Compatible devices: iPod Touch 1G, iPod touch 2G non mc, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs old bootrom, at least jailbroken once. Also, if you have an iPod 2G mc model, you must be on 3.1.2, with no past jailbreak required. For those who have an iPod 3G, you must have 3.1.2, not be jailbroken and check box in expert mode when building Custom iPsw. Last but not least, the iPhone 3GS with new bootrom, must be on 3.1.2, non jailbroken and don’t forget about the special check box in expert mode when building the Custom iPsw.

This guide will hacktivate your cellphone and retain your baseband. That means you will be able to unlock the iPhone, if your current baseband is unlockable. We have guides for that. By the way, we checked this for an iPhone 3G and 3GS, that’s why the title is as shown.

  11. Open iTunes and it should detect your “In Recovery Device”. Click OK.

  12. Now hold down the “Shift” key and click on the “Restore” button. Choose the custom firmware we just created ( NOT the one you downloaded ), and click “Open”. The firmware should look like this: ‘sn0wbreeze_iPhone_xxx’.
