How To Use SlingPlayer for iPhone via 3G

How To Use SlingPlayer for iPhone via 3G There’s no secret that the SlingPlayer for iPhone application is available at the App Store. Also there is no secret that this is going to cost you and in the end will you would have wished that you didn’t buy it. Another problem is that the SlingPlayer can only be used via WiFi, while on 3G can’t be used, unless… you follow these simple steps which will allow the app to run via 3G. Please note that this small guide will also allow you to use Skype via 3G which has been restricted to WiFi by AT&T, but people can hack anything, right?

1. Jailbreak your iPhone

Well, most of you probably had their iPhone jailbroken, but some of you didn’t so if you want SlingPlayer to work via 3G, you have to jailbreak your iPhone. It’s not that hard and you can learn all about it here and here. Please note that it’s very easy to jailbreak an iPhone therefore don’t be scared, but please read everything about it so that you know what you’re getting yourself into.

2. Fool your iPhone

Although iPhone is a smartphone, it’s not that smart and you can fool it. Just launch Cydia, then search for an app called Tricker Three3G, then install the app, and that’s it. Tricker Three3G is an application which tricks your iPhone into believing that it runs on WiFI even if you run on EDGE, GPRS or 3G. Learn more about the Tricker Three3G app here.

Well, Tricker Three3G cannot fool all apps meaning that it can push only three apps into thinking that they are running via WiFi, and the three apps are SlingPlayer, Skype, and Fring. However, if you would like to use other apps  which are restricted to WiFI via 3G then you will have to perform some hard tasks. Here is how you have to do it:

First of all you will need to search an app called VoIPover3G in Cydia, then install it. If you want this app to trick other apps that they run via WiFi, then you will need to manually edit some files, and in order to do that you will to download and install OpenSSH, and MobileSubstrate. In OpenSSH got to the root directory, then go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries, then open “VoIPover3G.plist”, then add “com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer”, save the changes, then reboot your iPhone and you’re ready to trick any app! You can learn more about this here.

It wasn’t that hard isn’t, was it? Well, we are still annoyed that AT&T along with Apple have restricted many apps only to WiFi use, but it seems like we can fool them. I dunno how long it will take until they find a way to keep us from doing this, but until then we have to take full advantage of what we can do so enjoy!
