How To Manually Download And Install Android 2.2 Froyo On The Motorola Droid

A couple of hours ago I was pleased to announce you that you can manually upgrade your Motorola Droid to Android 2.2 Froyo. And no, you don’t have to root your phone or anything as the upgrade process is legal and it consists of the official Android 2.2 Froyo FRG01B build from Verizon that will be pushed OTA by the end of the month.

So read on to find out how to manually download and install Android 2.2 Froyo on the Motorola Droid.

  1. Download this zip file here on your desktop computer;

  2. Copy the zip file directly in the root folder on the microSD card;

  3. Turn OFF the Droid phone and wait a few seconds;

  4. Turn ON your Droid and in the same time hold down the X on the sliding QWERTY keyboard;

  5. An image consisting of an exclamation mark will show up, and when you see it: press both the Volume Up and Camera buttons;

  6. Now use your D-Pad and pick the so-called “apply sdcard:update.zip” by pressing the gold button located in the middle of the D-Pad;

  7. Android 2.2 Froyo will now install itself on your Droid and then it will reboot.

  8. Have fun with Android 2.2 on the Motorola Droid!

See? It wasn’t that hard at all! Let us know how the update process went and how cool is the Droid now!

[Many thanks to Nexeo!]
