How to root the Nexus One ( step by step guide )

This guide will teach you how to root the Nexus One in just a few minutes. It’s targeted for beginners so if you haven’t done this until now, do not worry. By doing this, you gain full control over your phone so that you can install forbidden ( and cool ) applications and functions like Multitouch, Sense UI and even loading custom ROM’s. Before you start, there are a few things to know.

Rooting the Nexus One enables you root access over your smartphone. That means you can do whatever you like but at a certain cost. One of the most significant dangers of this process is blocking your phone if the steps are not done correctly or in order. Also, by choosing to root the Nexus One you agree to void your warranty. This can be undone, by completing an unroot guide to return your smartphone back to its original state.

Guide to root the Nexus One
  1. Download Superboot to your PC and extract it to C:. Rename the folder as “Superboot”.

  2. Turn off the Nexus One and then connect it to your PC by using an USB cable.

  3. Turn on the phone into the FastBoot Mode. You can do this by holding down the “trackball” and “power” button on the same time. Do this until the screen with the skateboarding Android figures comes up. It should say “FastBoot USB” on the top of the screen.

  4. Go to your PC and open the command prompt. You can do this by going to “Start” and typing “cmd.exe” into the search box. Hit the Enter button.

  5. Once it opens type the lines bellow, all followed by an Enter key.

    • cd

    • cd C:Superboot

    • fastboot-windows devices

Note: If you see a serial number followed by the word “fastboot”, you are good to go for the next step. If not, you must install the ADB drivers and then return to this procedure.

  6. Type “fastboot-windows oem unlock” and then select “Yes” on the void warranty screen. You can do this with the use of your “Volume Down” button to select it and then press “Power” to continue.

  7. On your PC, go to C:SuperBoot and double click on “install-superboot-windows.bat”. Wait for it to finish ( it’s usually a matter of a second ) and then you are all set. Congratz.

You are done. You can now continue and install the latest version of your OS: Android 2.2 ( Froyo ).
