How to disable protected mode in office 2010 (protected view)


Protected mode is a new security feature available in Microsoft Office 2010.It enhances protection against risky Outlook email attachments, files that came from the Internet, files that fail validation or files that are located in potentially unsafe locations.

Microsoft Office 2010 protected mode enables users to access these files without worrying about the files infections.

There is a disadvantage. If you have enabled protected mode, it opens files with the read-only view. This means you can not edit the files. That can be sometimes annoying.

If you want to disable protected mode in Microsoft Office 2010, follow the steps bellow:

  • Run one of the Microsoft Office 2010 applications (e.g. Word 2010).

  • Click on Office button, and select Options.

  • In the “Options” dialog, select Trust Center in the left pane.

  • Click on Trust Center Settings in the right pane.

  • Select Protected View in the left pane of “Trust Center” dialog.

  • Disable any of all of the protected mode options as below by clicking the check boxes:

  • Click OK.

To disable protected mode in every application of the Microsoft Office 2010 pack, you must repeat the procedure shown above for each application in part.
