How to Jailbreak your way into the Motorola Droid and gain full user access ( enable root )


Motorola Droid is the smartphone from Motorola that is based on the Android OS. Although used for multimedia and internet access, users do not have full access by default. But there is a way you can jailbreak the Android and gain root access to Motorola Droid. This will allow you to do whatever you want on the Droid.

Why you should to rout the Motorola Droid? How to root a Motorola Droid

Note1: Rooting the Motorola Droid may void the warranty, and can potentially brick the Droid device if not done correctly.

Note2: The following hack works for Motorola Droid with Android v2.0 or v2.0.1. Follow the steps bellow to root your Motorola Droid:

  1. Plug the Droid into computer via USB. On the Droid go to the Notifications bar, select USB Connected, and then press Mount. Once the device is mounted, the SD memory card will be shown as a removable device on computer. Copy the into the root (top) directory/folder of the SD card. Unmount the device when copying operation is done, and turn the Droid off.

  2. Turn the Droid off, and then pull the microSD card from the phone. Insert the microSD card into a card reader, and then copy the to its root folder. Put back the microSD card into the phone.

  • Boot the phone into recovery mode. You can do that by pressing and holding the X key (on the sliding keyboard) plus the Power button. Keep holding until the Motorola Droid screen shows an exclamation mark (!).

  • Apply the update by pressing Volume Up and Camera button, and then select the option (with D-pad on the physical keyboard) to update with file.

  • After the updating of your Motorola Droid completes, reboot the phone.
