Your computer got infected with SoftStronghold? Worry not, here is all the info you need to know about this malware: what it is, how it got on your computer. In addition, we provide a quick guide on how to remove SoftStronghold from your computer. Read on to find out more.

From the Wini family of rogues that seems to grow with each passing day, another “member” has emerged: SoftStronghold. This new fake anti-malware uses the same scamming techniques: it will try to make you believe your computer is infected and that you need to buy the program to get rid of the infections. In fact, SoftStronghold is a scam and the warnings are fake as you are about to see in a moment.

SoftStronghold will get on your computer through the use of Trojans that mask themselves as flash upgrades or video codecs required for online video viewing. Once SoftStronghold gets on your computer, it will be programmed to start automatically when Windows loads. This rogue will then perform a fake scan of your computer. It will detect several files (that SoftStronghold itself created) as infections but then tell you that you have to pay for it so you can remove them.

But the tricks won’t stop here. As a “bonus” you get other fake warnings on your desktop (“your computer is under attack” and sorts) as well as a fake Windows Security Center window that tells you that you need to buy SoftStronghold to protect your computer. Remember that the legitimate Windows Security Center does not make any software recommendations regarding what software you should buy.

Here is a quick guide on how to remove SoftStronghold from your computer using Malwarebyes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM):

1. This link will take you to our download page. Download the setup for Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware on your desktop.

6. When the scanner is complete, click Show Results. Mark all the infections and hit the “Remove Selected” button.

7. Now Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware will remove SoftStronghold from your computer, as well as related files and any other infections it deteced.

8. If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware requires that you reset your computer, allow it to do restart the computer itself.

9. A log will be displayed in a notepad window when the removal process is complete. Close this window.
