How To Remove / Uninstall Soft Veteran Virus (Removal Guide)

23.10.2009

Rogue security programs seem to be the latest “trend” in tricking the user. And there is an entire family of these programs, called the Wini program. They all work in basically the same way and they are all after the same thing: tricking you into believing your computer has severe security problems that you cannot fix until you buy the program. This is the case with the SoftVeteran: it is a scam that will bring up various fake warnings so you buy the program.

SoftVeteran will use Trojans masked as video codecs or flash updates required for online video viewing to get on your computer. Once infiltrated, it will then download the rest of the files and then install SoftVeteran on your computer and program it to start automatically next time you load Windows. In addition, it will also create a large number of harmless files with random names under your C:WindowsSystem 32 and C:Windows folders.

When the scam that is SoftVeteran starts next time, it will perform a fake scan of your computer and detect these harmless files as security problems. SoftVeteran then tells you that you need to buy the program to remove these files. Do not buy SoftVeteran as it is a scam. If you already bought it, you should contact your credit card issuer to dispute the charges.

How To Remove / Uninstall Soft Veteran Virus (Removal Guide)

The additional tactics used by SoftVeteran to try and trick you are very much the same as with all members of the Wini family of rogues: security warnings on your desktop and fake Windows Security screens that recommend buying SoftVeteran to protect your computer. Do not take any of these warnings seriously: they are fake and SoftVeteran is probably the only thing you actually need to remove from your computer.

Here is how to remove/uninstall SoftVeteran from your computer. We will use the free Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware software as it is a lot easier than manually removing the files. Here is what you should do:

1. Go here and download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware on your desktop. Don’t run it until you closed all the windows (yes, this one too). Look for a file called “mbam-setup.exe”.

2. Run the setup and proceed by following the instructions given by the wizard. Do not any changes to the default settings (leave the two boxes checked at the end of the install process too).

3. In Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, perform a quick scan by going to the Scanner screen, selecting the “Perform Quick Scan” option and then pressing the Scan button.

4. Do not worry if the process takes a while to complete. This is normal as Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware will scan your entire computer for any malware.

5. When the scan is complete, click OK and then press the Show Results button. Check all the detected infections and hit the “Remove Selected” button.

6. Note that Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware may prompt your for a restart. Allow it if this happens. This is necessary so it can remove certain files.

7. A log will be displayed in a notepad window when Malwarebytes finished its task. Read it and then close it.

Now you should have successfully removed SoftVeteran and all related files from your computer.
