Some of you might have received a mail from an alleged Microsoft Windows agent that warns you that the Conficker worm began spreading rapidly and that the mail contains an attachment that represents a security tool from Microsoft that you can use to protect yourself against this virus.

This mail is fake and the attachment is a Trojan that will install the rogue-spyware program Antivirus Pro 2010. When users open the install.exe file from the .zip archive attached to this spam mail, a trojan will be installed on your computer. This trojan will set your Internet Explorer security settings to the lowest possible level and then download and install the fake anti-spyware software Antivirus Pro 2010.

1. Go to our download page here and download the free Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware software.

2. Save the file on your desktop.

3. Close all windows and applications (this one included).

4. Run the setup for Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from your desktop.

5. Proceed with the installation by following the wizard’s instructions. Make sure you tell the program to automatically update itself.

6. Run Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.

7. Go to the Scanner Tab, select “Perform Quick Scan” and click “Scan”.

8. Wait for Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware to scan your computer for malware.

9. When the scan is finished, go to the scanner screen and click “Show Results”.
