How To Uninstall Programs In Windows Vista

13.10.2009

When you install a program in Windows, there are a number of changes that go on with your Operating System. It’s not just about the extraction of some files.

There are changes in your Windows Registries and a number of files are installed in other places than just the program folder. If you just delete the program, the registry will still contain information about the program, and this will lead to conflicts that will slow down or even make your computer unusable.

Many people need to format their hard drive and reinstall Windows only because they do not uninstall the programs correctly.

Here is the proper way to uninstall programs in Windows Vista

1. Go to Start->Control Panel
2. If the Control Panel is being displayed in normal view, you should be able to find the “Uninstall a program option” under “Programs”. Double click it if you find it. If the Control Panel is running in Classic View, double click the “Programs and Features” icon.
3. You will be now taken to a window where all the programs installed on your computer are listed. From this same window, you can also view installed updates or turn various Windows features off or on.
4. Find the program you want to uninstall in the list and click on it.
5. From the two options that have now appeared near the “Organize and View” button, click on Uninstall. (The second option is Change. This will modify how the program is installed, not uninstall it).
6. If prompted for permission to uninstall the program, click on the “Continue” button. (If you don’t want to uninstall the program, click “No”).
7. The Uninstall routine will now be launched. Follow the given instructions and remember to keep the data that you might need in the future if the option is given.
8. When the program has been uninstalled, you will be taken back to the list of installed applications. Close that window or choose another program that you want to uninstall.

Now you have correctly removed the application and all related files and entries from your computer. Notice that this is both quick and easy and also remember that just deleting the application folder will turn into performance loss or even unusable programs and features.
