How To Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 Using Blackra1n

11.10.2009

George Hotz decided to release another iPhone jailbreak in response to the iPhone OS 3.1.2 that was released earlier this month. The jailbreak is now called blackra1n and it’s available to all iPhone users at blackra1n.com. The great iPhone hacker has released blackra1n for Windows computers, and at the moment I don’t know if a Mac version is coming soon. According to GeoHot, blackra1n can jailbreak all iPhones and iPod Touches running iPhone OS 3.1.2, and it takes only 30 seconds to do it.

Even if everything should run smoothly, there are a few side-notes and when the iPhone OS 3.1.2 was released, I urged you not to upgrade until the iPhone dev team announces that it’s safe for your baseband. Well, the announcement was made by the same GeoHot who said that iPhone 3G and 3GS users should not upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes if they want to keep the unlock.

Use PwnageTool to upgrade to 3.1.2 in order to NOT upgrade your baseband! If you didn’t use PwnageTool then you probably lost the unlock and the ability to unlock the unit in the future! blackra1n will still jailbreak your phone, but it will not hacktivate the iPhone.

How to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 can be found here at blackra1n.com.
